Support From Peers
Welcome to the Peer Support Volunteer Program. We designed this program so that people facing neutropenia can support each other. This program will provide you the opportunity to speak with a person who has lived with neutropenia in a variety of settings.
We’ve been there…we know how you might be feeling…we’re here to listen and help!
Discovering that you, your child, or a loved one has been diagnosed with neutropenia can be an overwhelming experience. It doesn’t take long to realize that the effects of neutropenia quickly expand beyond what is happening in your blood. We understand that neutropenia has a way of somehow influencing many aspects of a person’s life. These can include, but are not limited to a person’s sense of self, your occupation and business affairs, personal relationships, and your overall ability to energetically enjoy your life. Talking openly with someone who has walked a similar path can be a healthy experience.
We have selected and trained a handful of volunteers who are prepared to speak with those seeking support. We will connect you with a volunteer that best matches your circumstances and the hurdles you may be facing.
Take a moment to complete the application for support services and a volunteer will contact you within 48 hours. Rest assured that your request will be treated with confidence and respect.
We know that asking for support is not always an easy thing…but we also know that living with neutropenia requires more than just hope.
Peer Support Request
Please complete and submit the following request form if you would like to be contacted by a trained peer support volunteer (PSV). All PSVs have experienced neutropenia in some form or fashion. Some have lived with neutropenia since birth, some were diagnosed while in adulthood, and some don’t have neutropenia at all. However, the PSVs not diagnosed with neutropenia are the spouses, parents, or caregivers of someone who does live with neutropenia. We believe that support can be offered from many walks of life.
All PSVs have been selected by the NNN and have received training on the most effective ways to provide support to those dealing with the challenges presented by living with neutropenia.
Our goal is to match your situation, and your expressed needs, with a peer support volunteer who can best empathize with you. Therefore, we encourage you to be specific when describing the nature of your request to receive support. We also strive to contact those requesting support within 48 hours of their request.
So, hang in there and we’ll be in touch with you!
